You might not think anything would be left of old wagon roads, but you'll be surprised to see how much is still there today. This is the Sherar's Road in Central Oregon. One of the most spectacular examples of an old wagon road that can be found high above the Deschutes River in Central Oregon. Many years have passed since the old road has been used, but it remains today as a monument to times before automobiles and even railroads. Countless miners, homesteaders, early freighters and others followed this route into Oregon's gold country in the 1860's |

Abandoned railroads have a story to tell and often lead to quiet places far off the beaten path. The location of most old railroads, like this one, is pretty obvious. Some abandoned railroads, especially ones in urban areas that have been gone for a while, do not leave such obvious clues. Using old maps, surveys, and aerial photographs a curious person can attempt to locate the old right of way. |
