Willamette Landings This fascinating book takes us back to a time before the automobile, and even before the railroads, when riverboats were the primary means of transportation in the Willamette Valley. Many of the original river landings provided the foundation for cities and towns of today while others have faded or have disappeared.

The Oregon-American Lumber Company (ain't no more) The complete story of the Oregon-American Lumber Company and mill town of Vernonia, Oregon. Truly one of the greatest history books ever written. An incredible amount of research went into the compilation of this book, which is told from the point of view of company executives from notes extracted from the company’s archives. Full of photos, maps and other diagrams. If you like railroading, logging, and Oregon history this book is a must.

Ghost Towns of the Pacific Northwest This is a nice guide to a number of ghost towns in the Pacific Northwest. Plenty here to keep you busy exploring many, many weekends. Nice pictures, and current as of 2005.

Oregon for the Curious Ralph Friedman's original book. A guidebook to many great places to visit throughout the state.

The Other Side of Oregon Another great Friedman book. If you like reading about Oregon you should own all of these.
